Hawks & Sparrows

synopsis

A comic, whimsical allegory on the theme of social injustice, Hawks and Sparrows follows the adventures of a father and son who set out to emulate St Francis of Assissi's mission to convert the birds to the ideals of Christianity. As they wander the Italian landscape debating politics and philosophy, they encounter a wise talking crow, who illuminates their quest by recounting left wing parables. Featuring a central performance by the celebrated Italian comic Toto, the film is darkly humorous, with stunning cinematography and a great music score by Ennio Morricone.

A brilliant, multi-faceted artist, Pier Paolo Pasolini is one of cinema's most passionate, uncompromising and controversial figures. Hawks and Sparrows marked a departure from his earlier neo-realist style of filmmaking, but retains his obsessions with politics and religion.
