When several bombs are planted on Captain Alex Brunel's (Omar Shariff) luxury liner by a disgruntled explosives demolition expert, a sentimental journey becomes a voyage from hell! Commander Anthony Fallon (Richard Harris) and Charlie Braddock (David Hemmings) are flown to the ship by helicopter to attempt defusing the bombs. Taunting and chiding, the bomber - calling himself "The Juggernaut" - stays on the telephone, demanding a huge ransom in exchange for instructions on defusing the bombs. Superintendent John McCleod (Anthony Hopkins) is the detective who furiously attempts to locate The Juggernaut, knowing that his wife and children are aboard ship.
