The Larrikin, th Lover, the Legend. Melbourne 1919. The height of the great influenza epidemic, with everyone in gauze masks and veils. An ideal cover for the enterprising criminal - and who was more enterprising than Squizzy Taylor, the 5 feet 2 inch lad from the slums with dreams of wealth and influence. Unfortunately the plan goes awry, but by exploiting the rivalry between two of the city's leading detectives, Piggot and Brophy, Squizzy wriggles free.
