Set during one long evening on New Years Eve 1981 in New York's Lower East Village, follows a dozen 20-something people going to a New Years Eve party while dealing with their life problems. They include Kevin who doesn't look forward to the new year since his girlfriend Ellie dumped him, so his friend Lucy persuades Kevin to do some excitement of their own. Monica, the party hostess, worries about anyone showing up while dealing with her friend Hillary and her artist ex-boyfriend Eric who shows up early. Across town, Stephie and Val wander into Soho after getting lost looking for the party and end up in a punk rock club where they are befriended by two punks named Tom and Dave. Meanwhile, naive Cindy goes on a blind date with Jack who tries to hide from his previous girlfriends they keep running into. And two of Eric's former girlfriends, Kaitlyn and Bridget, discuss their failed love lives while flirting with a local bartender and a disco cab driver that pops up from time to time.
