This movie is based on the life , and work of Pierrepoint , the main character , he adopted the job as a hangman , as it has been in the family for a long time.
His job doesn't wont his personal life very much , or at least that's what he thinks , but along te movie will happen things that will change his life brutally.
A movie very well done , and brilliantly acted by Timothy Spall.
