Monkey Puzzle follows five intrepid twenty-somethings who set off on an adventure into New South Wales' Blue Mountains in search of the world's rarest tree, the wollemi pine or 'monkey puzzle' tree.
After abseiling down into the rainforest gorges, a series of mishaps delay their adventure and tensions in the group surface quickly. As the friends become engulfed by the harsh terrain, they must face up to their most personal secrets and fears on a journey which will test their perceptions of friendship, intimacy and the nature of their pasts.
Directed by first-time feature director Mark Forstmann, this all-Australian production features some of the nation's top young actors.

I live in the blue mountains and i have to say watching this film was appealing but unfortunately my knowledge of local areas just made the plot even less laudable.
I found the characters annoying and irritating, with dumb problems and not being able to solve their issues when solutions were sometimes very obvious.
The film was very bleak, it could've emphasised the beauty of the mountains a bit more strongly and even worse, the cinematography had some very poor quality shots of the gross valley.
The only positive thing i can say is it's nice to watch an ozzie film.
