Amelie (Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain) (Blu-Ray)

synopsis

This tells the story of Amelie Poulain, a young French girl who has been brought up by overprotective parents. As soon as she is old enough, Amelie leaves the suburbs for Paris where she finds work as a waitress in a cafe. Life is pretty uneventful until her chance discovery of a tin box containing a schoolboy's long forgotten memories. She returns the box to its now middle-aged owner and it is then that Amelie discovers her true vocation in life - righting wrongs and helping others find love and happiness. However, something is missing from her own heart, and when a mysterious photo-album lands at her feet, it sets her on a delightfully twisted path through the Parisian streets to meet its handsome, mysterious owner and her own destiny...

Great on many levels.

A real feel good movie that manages to avoid the cliché romanticism that is present in so many of these types of films. Audrey Tautou is very good as the eccentric and very lovable Amelie. The real joy of this movie comes from watching how Amelie plays games with the people around her and the ways she finds to connect to them. Her mischievousness will make you laugh. Visually this film is also indulges with a rich palette of colours and wonderfully shot scenes. There are just so many things to like about this movie. Mention it in passing as one of your favourite movies and have French women flock to you. You can’t go wrong with this one!
