Don Juan ou Si Don Juan etait une femme

synopsis

In what was her last feature film, Brigitte Bardot sizzles as a calculating nymphet in this feminised version of the Don Juan story. A lusty seductress who placates her boredom by preying on vulnerable men - a married politician, a jilted folk singer who ends up slashing his wrists - Bardot is at her erotic best under direction from ex-husband Roger Vadim, who also directed her breakthrough film, And God Created Woman (1957).

Watch it for the seventies furniture and fashion!

Hmmm! Hard to pin down exactly what the point of this movie was! Brigitte Bardot spends a lot of time pouting and looking fabulous in lots of groovy seventies outfits but her story is somewhat turgid. She is not convincing in her seduction of a young priest who is also her cousin; his portrayal of a priest is equally implausible! However, the film's nouvelle vague style is enough to keep one entertained. The monotonously repetitive backgound song (in English) "Don Juan" is terrible! The ending is frustrating, and without giving it away, I can only ask" Why?" Worth a look but not riveting.

It is somehow chic to watch Bardot but the repetitive “Don Juan” theme song in background is way too much for me.
