Deadwood, in untamed Dakota Territory, is a man's world on the edge of the Wild West, but hard riding, sharp shooting Calamity Jane (Doris Day) can keep up with the best of them. She's too darned busy fighting Indians and cracking a bullwhip to pay much attention to girlie dresses and perfume and all! One of her bar-room boasts leads her all the way to Chicago to persuade beautiful stage star Adelaide Adams (Gale Robbins) to come and perform at Deadwood's premier venue, The Golden Garter. She brings back the wrong girl (Allyn Ann McLerie), and things go from bad to worse when she becomes a love rival for the hearts of her buddies Wild Bill Hickok (Howard Keel) and Lt Danny Gilmartin (Philip Carey). Can Jane discover her more feminine side to ensure all ends happily? Songwriters Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster offer up a toe-tappin', thigh-slappin' score with highlights including gentle folk number 'The Black Hills of Dakota', Keel's memorable solo 'Higher Than A Hawk' and Day's all-singing, all-dancing 'Just Blew In From The Windy City'.
