Ironweed*

synopsis

Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep received Academy Award Nominations as Best Actor and Best Actress for their performances in this outstanding motion picture. Adapted by William Kennedy from his Pulitzer prize-winning novel and brought to the screen by Academy Award–Nominated director Hector Babenco, Ironweed unites two of the world's leading movie stars in an extraordinary film about love, compassion and the unbreakable bonds between people. Jack Nicholson gives one of the finest performances of his career as the hard-luck Francis Phelan, one-time husband, father and big-league Baseball Player, now a down-and-out drifter, haunted by death and guilt as he drinks and fast-talks his way through the streets and saloons of depression-era Albany, New York. Meryl Streep is no less compelling as his companion Helen Archer, a once-proud woman ravaged by alcohol, clinging to life through her love of music and her fitful relationship with Francis.
