Jose Ferrer stars as the composer Sigmund Romberg, who creates and plays charming music, reminiscent of his native Austria, in the Cafe Vienna on Second Avenue. His boss, opera diva Anna Mueller, convinces him to try writing some popular ragtime music and he is soon swept up in the glamorous world of the theatre as he writes one hit after another.
