Jeremy Irons plays Stephen Fleming, a respected Member of Parliament and Junior Minister, comfortable with his life as he approaches his fiftieth birthday. Secure in his enduring marriage, he has no premonition of the storm that is about to engulf him when he is drawn to an attractive woman (Juliette Binoche) at an embassy cocktail party. Adapated by David Hare from Josephine Hart's novel, Damage was director Louis Malle's final film.
