Alan Arkin made his directorial debut with this bitingly funny black comedy. Meet the Newquists - a family in a typical American city where riots, muggings and sniper attacks are a way of life. It turns out, though, that violence is great for daughter Patsy's (Marcia Rodd) love life! A feisty interior designer, she begins dating a passive photographer (Elliot Gould), after she rescues him from muggers. Convinced that they are a match made in heaven, the young couple struggles to survive in a crazy city where anything goes. Donald Sutherland and Vincent Gardenia round out the all-star cast in this hilarious classic from Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Jules Feiffer (Carnal Knowledge).

Great script and excellent performances make this a stunning observation of human frustration with modern life. Wins my vote for best movie of all time for cameos.
