Backbeat is the story of the fifth Beatle, Stuart Sutcliffe, and the two most important people in his life: John Lennon and Astrid Kirchherr. It is a passionate and tragic love story set during The Beatle’s wild months in Hamburg in the early 1960s. Inseparable friends at art school, John (Ian Hart) convinces Stuart (Stephen Dorff) to join his band The Beatles for the summer, playing the clubs in Hamburg’s red light. There they discover an incredible world, a new generation inspired by the American "Beat" movement, bursting with creative madness and unbridled energy. Among them is Astrid (Sheryl Lee), a beautiful photographer. John is consumed with envy as Astrid and Stuart fall madly in love and embark on the most wild of affairs. She becomes the inspiration for his paintings, he for her photographs. As the crazy summer draws to an end, Stuart is forced to choose between his deep loyalty for John and The Beatles and his love for Astrid...
