Ulysses' Gaze traces the journey of Greek-American filmmaker, "Mr. A" (Harvey Keitel), across the Balkans in search of the past. He seeks three lost film reels made in the early years of cinema by two Greek brothers. Their images, he believes, hold the key to lost innocence and essential truth. ''All the ambiguities, the contrasts, the conflicts in this area of the world are reflected in their work,'' A. says by way of explaining his quest. Internationally acclaimed for its stunning imagery and colossal style, Ulysses Gaze is a compelling meditation on the fall of Communism which travels through war-torn Eastern Europe giving a compelling eye-witness account, as well as an informed and compassionate description of the scope of the conflict that is still unraveling in the Balkan states.
