An exploration of destructive and obsessive passion, Nicolas Roeg's Two Deaths is a film packed with shock and intrigue set during the Romanian revolution of 1989. A group of men assemble for their annual reunion dinner despite the gunfire and mayhem in the streets outside. This year the host is eminent surgeon, Doctor Daniel Pavenic, the most successful member of the group who is held in high esteem by his friends. During the course of the magnificent banquet, Pavenic confesses to a life-long obsession with Ana Puscasa, the beautiful, enigmatic woman who serves their food. With each exquisite dish that arrives at the table, Pavenic reveals a series of shocking truths about himself, illustrating the dark and sinister lengths one man will go to in order to possess the woman he desires. An astute and provocative observation of human behaviour, Two Deaths has all the influential trademarks of innovative director Nicholas Roeg, while Michael Gambon gives a powerful performance as the brutally honest surgeon, Daniel Pavenic.
