Written by Robert Bolt, Ryan's Daughter is a bitter sweet tale of love and loyality between Robert Mitchum, Sarah Miles and Christopher Jones played out against the backdrop of early 20th century Ireland, as political events overtake affairs of the heart. The beautifully filmed landscapes of Western Ireland were deservedly acclaimed and earned Director of Photography, Freddie Young an Oscar for Best Cinematography in 1970.
