Set in the America's Deep South, Robert Redoford's The Legend of Bagger Vance tells the story of Rannulph Junuh (Matt Damon), the town of Savannah's very own golfing hero who once appeared to have it all, including captivating Southern Belle Adele Invergordon (Charlize Theron). This idyllic existence was shattered, however, when Junuh was called up to fight in the First World War. The only survivor of his company, he returned to Savannah a broken man, preferring to spend his time drinking and gambling. Meanwhile, the Great Depression has hit the town and, following her father's suicide, Adele risks everything to save his golf estate by holding a tournament between two of the country's premier golfers, Bobby Jones (Joel Gretsch) and Walter Hagen (Bruce McGill). Initially refusing to participate in the competition, a reluctant Junuh is eventually persuaded to represent Savannah by the mysterious appearance of Bagger Vance (Will Smith). With his spiritual pearls of wisdom Bagger becomes Junuh's caddy, helping the disillusioned golfer rediscover his swing. As the tournament progresses, the excitement unites the whole town and Junuh begins to rediscover something within himself... and possibly Adele.
