Set in the beautiful location of eighteenth century Venice, the story begins with Casanova as older figure, writing the memoirs of his life and his conquests, "ten thousand pages; that's about one woman per page." As the action moves to Casanova as a young man, we see his talent for seducing the women of Venice. His bed-hopping earns him a reputation as the most legendary seducer in the city. This is soon brought to a halt when, facing execution by the Inquisition, Casanova must choose between marriage and leaving Italy for good. He decides to marry the city's most eligible virgin (Natalie Dormer) but his attentions are soon taken by Francesca (Sienna Miller), the strident feminist who revokes his advances. Casanova then embarks on a dangerous game in order to woo his most challenging woman yet, using masquerade and role-play to dangerous effect. Much adventure and caper lead to the question, "will Casanova win his true love?"
