Autumn Spring

synopsis

A warm and heartfelt tragi-comedy in the classic Czech tradition, Vladimir Michalek's Autumn Spring stars the great Vlastimil Brodsky (Closely Watched Trains, Jacob The Liar) as Fanda, the terminal prankster who refuses to grow up. Ignoring his wife and son's pleas to end his carefree ways, he spends his days seeking amusement and adventure. With his devoted friends, Fanda keeps his acting skills sharpened by posing as a retired opera star one day and a ticket inspector the next. However, when he fakes his own death, terrifying his family, Fanda's wife Emilie files for divorce. She soon realises, however, that maybe Fanda is right - instead of old age being a time to take on worriews, it is the time to shed them and live each day to the fullest. A film about friendship, love and resilence, full of subtle and brilliant humour, Autumn Spring is dedicated to Vlastimil Brodsky who died shortly after the film was made.
