Marco (Marcello Mastroianni) and Irene (Catherine Deneuve) play a modern urban couple: they both work, they're not married, and they have a child. After experiencing severe morning sickness, Marco makes the thoroughly modern discovery that he is pregnant. Doctors and experts convene to confirm this phenomena of paternal maternity, and Marco becomes a celebrity, modelling paternity clothes, making commercials and appearing on billboards.
