Two Men Went to War

synopsis

This comedy drama is the true story of two Army dentists Sergeant Peter King (Kenneth Cranham) and Private Leslie Cuthbertson (Leo Bill) who, in 1942, stole a bag of hand grenades, two revolvers and a set of the best dental equipment that money could buy and went off to invade occupied France on their own - without permission! Two Men Went To War tells their outrageously irresponsible, yet eccentically heroic story for the first time. With an all star cast in a sumptuous, funny and moving dramatisation of one of the most bizarre events to have occured in the Second World War.

Made me smile

This film made me smile. Being based on a true story, made the story all the more appealing. The film dealt with the characters kindly, not making fun of them, but rather showing understanding for their actions. Sensitively handled while still being delightfully funny.

Great Offbeat War Story

This movie is one of those little gems that seems to come out of nowhere. Free of the big name actors (except perhaps Derek Jacobi), it is a quirky story that is both well filmed and performed. You don't have to be a war fan - just a fan of a good yarn, well told.
