Jean Cocteau's interpretation of the classic fairy tale story of the beautiful young girl who sees the true loneliness of the disfigured beast is much more than a children's story. Illustrating the tale with live-action and fantastic prosthetics for Jean Marais as the Beast, Cocteau's vision is of a very adult dream world, in which the young girl cures the hideously disformed prince of his monstrous curse, demonstrating the awesome power of love.
