Galway in the 1920's. After a long and profitable career as a boxer, Irish-born American Sean Thornton returns to his home village to settle down and forget an accident in which he killed an opponent in the ring. Sean buys back the Thornton cottage, incurring the wrath of neighbouring squire Red Will Danaher whose sister Mary Kate he's fallen in love with. With the drunk Michaeleen Flynn as marriage broker, and with Red Will reluctant to allow the courtship to go ahead, Sean Thornton has to battle against all manner of Irish blarney to get the hand of the girl he loves. This is one of the most popular romances ever made and features one of the classic fights in cinema history. 'The Quiet Man' was nominated for 6 Oscars, including Best Picture, and won 2: for its Cinematography of the stunning landscape of the West of Ireland, and also for John Ford as Best Director.
