Angel was the debut of writer/director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Michael Collins) and it stars Stephen Rea as Danny, a young and talented saxaphone player. Danny witnesses the killing of his band manager when three masked terrorists bomb a dance-hall where his band had been playing. A young girl he met during the night wanders on to the scene and is shot in turn. Using only his wits and the information he has observed during this traumatic event, Danny emabrks on a nightmare journey of vengeance, that comes slowly to dominate him - his music, his friendships and his love for Deirdre, the danceband's glamorous singer. As Danny tracks down each of the assassins, he finds others whose lives have been ravaged by the fatal lure of violence as a solution to human problems. |
