VOLUME 7:
It is now 1918, and the Great War has shaken out the last vestiges of Victorian England.
In the Forsyte family, nearly all the older generation are dead, and among the younger members a new love burns, rekindling bitter old feuds.
Oblivious to the enduring resentment harboured by their parents, Jon and Fleur meet by chance and fall in love. But the reluctance of Jo, Irene and Soames to reveal the truth of the past to their children makes them all the more determined to discover it.
VOLUME 8:
Although the 1920s herald a new age in politics and culture, for the Forsytes, as Soames tells Fleur, "The present is rooted in the past, the future in both."
Fleur and Jon's relationship is destroyed by the bitter family feud that still lingers on, driving Fleur to a marriage with the socially conscious Michael Mont, and Jon to America after his father's death.
But the emergence of Mont's best friend, Wilfred Desert, as a threat to their happiness brings the echo of past passions to the story once more.
