VOLUME 11:
Britain's first Labour government falls and Michael Mont id returned to parliament as a conservative MP devoted to a radical new school of political thought.
The libel suit against Fleur culminates in a dramatic courtroom climax, the result of which sends Fleur and Soames on a trip round the world. When they return, the General Strike is about to erupt. The country is thrown into chaos, and the Forsytes are confronted with painful reminders of earlier emotions as Fleur and Jon meet for the first time in over six years.
VOLUME 12:
While Michael busies himself with promoting a slum-clearance scheme, Fleur's restlessness is further stirred by repeated meetings with Jon... Not all of them by chance.
Even Soames is persuaded to join Michael's scheme, and Fleur seeks to quell her growing discontent by opening a rest home for factory girls.
But, like Fleur, the past will not rest. "Nothing really changes", she tells Jon. Not even, it seems, the possessive instinct of the Forsytes, which now sows the seeds of an unforgettable climax to this supreme entertainment.
