Edwina (Natasha Richardson) has moved into the neighbourhood known as Widow's Peak, so called due to the prevalent marital status of the residents. The residents are all curious about their new neighbour, including Mrs Counihan (Joan Plowright), the resident's leader, whose son is busy wooing Edwina. Miss O'Hare (Mia Farrow) and Edwina have an immediate dislike for each other and some accidental encounters look like Edwina is trying to ruin her hew rival. As the problems escalate, it's not long before the ladies of Widow's Peak have a murder on their hands...
