The Day Of The Jackal

synopsis

The Day of the Jackal is a taut and colourful suspense thriller about the attempt by the right-wing OAS to assassinate General De Gaulle. Edward Fox portrays the ruthless anonymous assassin hired by exiled OAS chief Colonel Rodin (Eric Porter) to carry out the execution. Working under the code-name 'Jackal', he is the best man in his field - uninvolved, without passion and willing to murder for pure gain. The cold precision of his preparations is juxtaposed with the plodding efforts of the French authorities to uncover the plot. Cyril Cusack is superb as the corrupt gunsmith and Delphine Seyrig, as a victim of the Jackal's attentions, is outstanding.
