Love In The City (1953)

synopsis

One of the best omnibus films, which brought together the best Italian filmmakers of the '50s. The episodes are: The Spectator, by Dino Risi; When Love Fails, by Antonioni; Love Cheerfully Arranged (also known as The Matrimonial Agency), by Fellini; Paid Love, by Carlo Lizzani; The Love of a Mother, by Zavattini and Maselli and Italy Turns Around, by Alberto Lattuada. The inspiration for the film is said to have been Zavattini; particularly notable are the Antonioni episode, in which unsuccessful suicides tell why they blame disappointment in love for trying to end their lives, and the very funny Fellini episode, in which a client (played by Fellini) at a matrimonial agency pretends that he is searching for a wife for a friend who thinks he is a werewolf. Directed by: Michelangelo Antonioni (segment "Tentato suicido") Federico Fellini (segment "Agenzia matrimoniale, Un'") Alberto Lattuada (segment "Italiani si voltano, Gli") Carlo Lizzani (segment "Amore che si paga, L'") Francesco Maselli (segment "Storia di Caterina") Dino Risi (segment "Paradiso per 4 ore") Cesare Zavattini (segment "Storia di Caterina")
