D'Artagnan's Daughter

synopsis

Bertrand Tavernier's 'D'Artagnan's Daughter' is a hugely enjoyable swashbuckling comedy. It has all the pace and liveliness of the classic period action/adventure films, yet it was made with a light touch and a careful avoidance of cliche. It is 1654, and Eloise discovers a plot to assassinate the young Louis XIV. She flees to Paris to enlist the help of her father, D'Artagnan, who has by now retired. Eventually, she persuades him of the danger, and the two of them set out to recruit the three other musketeers, Porthos, Aramis and Athos, for one final adventure. 'D'Artagnan's Daughter' was nominated for two Cesars, one of which was for Claude Rich's portrayal of the evil Duc du Crassac. French with subtitles.
