It's Christmas and best buddies and petty crims Nick and Rudy (Ben Affleck) have two days left in prison. Rudy wants to start a new life on the straight and narrow, while Nick just wants to see the pen-pal girlfriend he's never met, Ashley (Charlize Theron). Just before their release, Nick is murdered and Rudy ends up impersonating his dead friend to Ashley.
