A big-budget movie descends upon a quaint town, sowing a bumper crop of corruption, vanity and greed. Thrown out of his original location, director Walt Price (William H. Macy) certainly has his work cut out for him as he moves the production to a new town. The movie's star (Alec Baldwin), is a celebrity heartthrob with a predilection for under-aged girls, which canny local teenager Carla (Julia Stiles) proves quite effective at exploiting. This sends the sensitive screenwriter (Philip Seymour Hoffman), sole witness to the affair, into a moral dilemma. To make matters worse, the film's leading lady, Claire (Sarah Jessica Parker), refuses to do her contracted nude scene! Polished producer Marty Rossen (David Paymer) arrives to apply his inimitable powers of persuasion; negotiating with Claire and her agent, keeping an eye on Bob, tangling with the law, and getting rewrites out of Joe. In the days that elapse before the cameras finally roll, money will change hands, careers will be jeopardised and love will bloom.
