This is the story of failed novelist Miles (Paul Giamatti) and his washed-up actor friend Jack (Thomas Haden Church). Jack is soon to be wed and, to toast their youth, the pair take a final road trip in the week before the nuptials. A serious wine enthusiast, Miles is determined to educate his friend on the region's beloved Pinot Noir wines before the week is out. Jack indulges his best friend's passion for the grape - but is mainly interested in living his last week of bachelorhood to the max. Trouble ensues when women (Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh) mix with the wine, and the duo start to realise what's important in life as they come to terms with maturity. Alexander Payne (About Schmidt) directs this film based on the novel by Rex Pickett.

Slow going at first, and lame. However, worth your patience as it is a no frills, believable plot.
